Silver Street Plans On Hold.

Silver Street and Rectory Road At the Village General Meeting in September the populace of Kedington voted to reject the plans presented for changes to Silver Street around the Rectory Road junction, but asked that the council bring forward new plans. However ever plan have now been put on hold.

Having had no suggestions for changes that had not already been rejected previously on safety grounds the council decided to put any changes to Silver Street on hold for a year to see if any other options could be formulated. The aim of any changes would be to make the currently foot-pathless section of road safer for pedestrians, but to make such changes in a way that dose not significantly increase danger to road traffic has thus far proven impossible.

Suggestions of a path up the park side of the road have been branded of dangerous as it would force traffic coming from the Barnardiston Arms end across the road towards the rectory road side where cars will be emerging from what is in effect a blind junction with almost no view of traffic from that direction. suggestions of a zebra crossing as far as the traffic island also fall foul of the poor sight lines as anyone standing on the traffic island would be too far back to be seen from or see traffic coming up from the Barnardiston Arms end of the road. A pelican crossing would answer that difficulty but would be very noisy for anyone living around the junction.
